Dear Messrs  Spence and Savill

Ref: Your establishment at the Jockey Club and BHB continues to waste a huge amount of  your own time and money as well as many other peoples unnecessarily by authorising personnel to act for you who are not qualified for the task that you are asking and expecting them to do.

You continue to blame others unjustly for your own inadequacies.  Amongst many of the noted glaring  examples is the “Boring Goring M.Batchelor” issue. Turfcall calls your attention to the following facts:

Malcolm Wallace speaking for the Disciplinary Committee of the Jockey Club on Channel 4  The Morning Line at 9am to 10am on Saturday January 5th 2002 confirmed the decision made by the Exeter Stewards on November 23rd 2001 and that of trainer Dace’s Keltic Heritage C.Bolger appeal that the interference caused by the “Boring Goring M.Batchelor” partnership contestant in the fifth race on the card that day the 2.50pm Novice Hurdle Race where they veered sharply left nearly bringing Keltic Heritage C.Bolger down, hitting them broadside and bringing them in the vital closing stages of this race to a virtual standstill from which they were never able to recover … as an accident … you cannot be serious … an accident ? No way was this an accident.

Legally the decision of the Exeter Steward’s on this day and since that of the Jockey Club Disciplinary Committee personnel at appeal hearing on Thursday 3rd of January 2002 must not be allowed to stand. All these persons to include Malcolm Wallace, whoever they are, they are directly responsible for this their stated judgement. Now need to stand down, give them a holiday as you give many jockeys for supposed errors. However due to their clear lack of qualifications they should not be refereeing matters of this sort again. They have through their grossly inaccurate understanding of the true facts here severely contaminate / blighted the integrity of the sport of horseracing in this country, through what they have failed to deal with effectively due to the fact that they are not qualified in the first place they bring this sport into serious confusion and disrepute. This cannot and must not be allowed to continue on any longer.

Turfcall requests your answers to the following questions:-

A horse and jockey do not suddenly veer severely left as “Boring Goring M.Batchelor” did hitting Keltic Heritage C Bolger broadside on nearly knocking them both over and bringing  them to a virtual standstill on the vital run in to this race by accident there has to be a reason … for spontaneous re-action of this sort to occure… What do the powers that be consider was the real cause  ? And why is it that no further investigations into this startling performance are not being thoroughly investigated ?

Was “Boring Goring” frightened by M.Batchelors whip tactics ? Has he suffered whip abuse all too often  in the past ? Or was “Boring Goring” making a quick fearful panic dash back to the stables when he hit broadside and crashed into Keltic Heritage C.Bolger ..? Because it is clear that it was one or the other or both, but it was certainly no accident.

Turfcall information sheet for your immediate reference. To call your attention to the vital facts that you clearly have chosen to overlook:-

Ref: The controversial result of the 2.50pm DoublePrint Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (Class F) 2m6 f. 10 run at Exeter on Friday November 23rd 2001. Winner £2.727.20. Involving two horses “Keltric Heritage and  C.Bolger (7)” trained by  L.A.Dace and owned by Danny O’Sullivan, and “Boring Goring and M.Batchelor” trained by Miss A.M.Newton – Smith and owned by Goring Hotel.

“BORING GORING” FORM DETAIL taken from The Racing Post Data:-

November 23rd 2001 QuoteEnded a run of non-completions over hurdles / fences when rallying to chase home easy winner Smarty …”

November 24th 2001  Quote “Strong challenge from 3 out, edged left last, led and veered badly left

run-in, driven out.

“KELTIC HERITAGE” FORM DETAIL taken from The Racing Post Data:-

November 23rd 2001 Quote “Tongue tied and gambled on when showing first form over hurdles  in finishing third in 2m5f Plumpton seller last time …

November 24th 2001 Quote “Chased leaders from fifth, challenged next under slight lead approaching three out, headed run- in and badly hampered , not recover.

ANALYSIS result Quote “A controversial result with Boring Goring amazingly allowed to keep the race after ducking left and barging the challenging Keltic Heritage on the run-in. The winner rallied when straightened out to hold his rival at bay, which was enough under the present liberal laws to allow the first past the post to keep the race.  Both of the tongue-tied principles pulled nicely clear off a strong pace to suggest they should win again from the bottom of the handicap Hurricane Pete was reported by his jockey to have been hanging left-handed through the race.”  Turfcall questions you powers that be … Was this considered by yourselves to be an accident as well ?  Hanging in your book is an accident as well is it ?

“BORING GORING” 7-bg FORM DETAIL taken from The Racing Post Data:-

November 5th 2001  Plumpton 2m5f Nov:Hurdle, 9 run. Quote “2nd Boring Goring 7-11-0 M.Batchelor 66-1 in touch, strong reminders after 7th and 8th driven to stay in touch 3 out, stayed on to take 2nd flat” … beaten 5 lengths by Smarty and T.J.Murphy.

October 2nd 2001 Exeter 2m6 f Novice Amateur Hurdle 10 run. Quote “Unseated rider.  Boring Goring  Mr S. Gordon – Watson (7) 7-10-10. 33-1  Pulled hard early, behind until unseated rider 2 out.

Turfcall further draws your attention to the question’s that these facts throw up and provide, to include the video evidence as clearly shown on Channel 4 Morning Line on Saturday January 5th 2002. To include all the references as stated by John Francome which were key, but not recognised or even understood by Malcolm Wallace who was shown to be way out of his depth, unqualified full stop. You cannot continue to be allowed to burden so many others who have and do make daily such a huge contribution to the sport of horseracing in this country.

This race should now be given to the  Keltic Heritage C.Bolger partnership contestant and all those responsible for this furore and confusion should stand down and make a public apology and confession that they admit to being unqualified to act as referees in matters such as these. The Boring Goring partnership should be disqualified. And until such time as you people can get your act to-gether to investigate the problem fully should not be allowed to race again until such time as the problem is sorted thoroughly, a word of warning do not take the easy route and put all the blame on this poor horse either.

Both your establishments should now be looking into the welfare and training of “Boring Goring” you should need to check out the trainer and the jockey and the Lad or Lass that does this horse and the person if different who rides him out each day and in his work. Because Boring Goring’s actions in this race clearly show that all is far from well … NO ACCIDENT.

Turfcall further calls your attention and  acts to remind you of what your responsibilities are and should be … encloses yet again herewith for your reference the following:

You owe it to racing now to take the appropriate steps to put your own house in order that of both the Jockey Club and that of the BHB and you should have the decency to confirm to all of us others what your plans are and what your future structure and aims are exactly to ensure to uphold all these rights at  the heart of horseracing  for the wellbeing of this part of the industry workforce who put this show on the road daily and who make daily such a huge contribution against all adversity and appalling misunderstandings.

Yours sincerely and on behalf of Turfcall the voice of the people who do care.
