Racing Post 27.8.2004 Letters. What is this if not exploitation ? J. Margaret Clarke disagrees with Tony Verdie's argument.Tony Verdie says: "There is a world of difference between not being well paid and rank exploitation." However, Bill O'Gorman (August 15) says: "Those with little or no idea of what they are doing are receiving the same money as qualified lads." What is this if not exploitation ? O’Gorman goes on to point out: "Not only has a chronic shortage of staff propelled many unskilled workers into the same wage bracket as skilled ones, but overstretched quality staff are often obliged to lower their own standards in order to fit in ..." But where are the supposed Jockey Club regulators and where are the British Horseracing Board governors to allow a situation such as this one to develop in the first place …? This is surely exploitation on a MEGA scale, to which both the Jockey Club and the British Horseracing Board choose to turn a blind eye . |
